My Standard Manga Equipment

Description

Manga Equipment.

1. B4 Manga Paper. It's huuuuuuge~ It's really gratifying drawing on that compared to drawing on an A4 paper because I have more space. Drawing on an A4 paper makes me feel restricted. But of course, for Kritic, I draw on A4 Paper.

2. Singapore 20 cent. Err... not really part of the equipment, just for size comparison.

3. One small red brush and another even smaller blue brush. I have yet to use the blue brush. Anyway, these are used with no 6 to correct really large and really minute mistakes.

4. Screen tones! I only have 2 at the moment... These can only be used on the B4 Manga paper. That's why you don't see me use this in Kritic.

5. IC Comic Super Black Ink. This was the bottle that spilled the other day. T-T. It's super black, dries at satisfactory speed, waterproof and doesn't go away when you rub your eraser over the lines.

6. IC Comic Super White. Actually, I don't use this very much. It's a lot like white poster paint and I don't really know how to use it. I only use it when I do a really huge screw up.

7. Cheap pen knife. For etching the screen tones. Just make sure when you buy one, the tip of the blade doesn't wobble too much.

8. 3 rulers. One 15cm inking ruler and 2 30cm rulers. Not the ideal kind of rules. The best should be completely transparent. I couldn't find completely transparent ones, so I'm bearing with these. I usually stack the white 30 cm ruler over the yellow ruler using white tack when I ink so the ink wouldn't bleed and ruin my art.

9. Pentel Soft Eraser. Imo, the best erasers in the world~ Or at least the work well with me. They clean well, soft and produce little eraser dust. The downside that they are a little expensive compared to the everyday eraser. Just don't lose them.

10. Screen tone burnisher. For applying the screen tones on to the paper.

11. Buncho 0.5 2B leads. Best ever.

12. My lovely Pilot Supergrip 0.5 Mechanical Pencil. Many sketches are done using this baby.

13. Copic Multiliner SP 0.3. I looooooove this pen. It has a nice weighty feeling, the nib is soft, the ink flow is smooth and the thickness of lines can to some extent be controlled.

14. Faber-Castell 0.2 Eco Pigment. This pen gives good black ink (compared to Sakura and Pilot) and also the line produced is very fine. But I am not very satisfied with the ink flow...

15. Copic Multiliner 0.5. Not as cool as my SP 0.3, but this gives thicker lines. And it's still a Copic.

16. Uniball Signo 0.7 Creamy White. I use this a lot to correct simple mistakes. But it doesn't seem to work very well on the smooth surface on the B4 Manga Paper. But it works wonders on normal cheap A4 paper.

17. Pentel Pen Liquid Paper. This thing can be commonly found in a normal stationery shop. I use this A LOT. Compared to the ink from the Uniball and the IC White, the white liquid from this thing is best to do corrections. It dries very quickly and I can ink on the resulting surface easily with the IC Black. But it's pretty stupid to ink using the multiliners over this liquid paper since the ink doesn't stick on to the liquid paper.

18. Zebra Brush Pen. One side has a large brush, the other side a smaller brush. Costed me a bomb, but super useful. For hair and large areas.

19. Pen holders. The black one is a Zebra pen holder (can hold all nibs except the Maru nib) while the brown one is a Tachikawa Free Pen holder (can hold all nibs including the Maru Nib). I use the Tachikawa holder as my default holder. The nibs fitted to the holders here are both G-pen nibs. The one on the brown holder is newer and I use it for the main lines. The one on the black holder is older and I use it for the frames.

20. Zebra Maru pen holder with a Nikko Maru nib fitted on to it. This thing produces the finest lines ever. For fine inking.

Note: For Kritic, I only use the Multiliners and not the dip pens. Using the IC Black on normal A4 paper is stupid because the ink will bleed on the paper. Besides, the sharp nibs will scratch and tear the A4 paper.

Nib Collection

1. G-Pen nibs. Nikko. I use this nib the most. A very dynamic pen. Can produce both thick and thin lines and the thickness can be controlled by the amount of pressure applied on to the paper.

2. Maru (Round) pen nibs. I use this the second most. Produces very fine lines. Can produce thick lines if you press hard on to the paper. The only downside is that it picks up fibre.

3. School pen nibs. I use this for buildings and thick speed lines. These produces uniform lines and have a hard feeling to it.

4. Spoon pen nibs. I almost don't use this at all... I bought it to experiment.
